Unfortunately, this week wasn't too exciting regarding the amount of work I've done, as I've been busy traveling and spending time with family before my winter break ends! (and it is rather hard to animate on a plane)
However, this is still another week working closer to my goal! I've largely been dedicated at this point to finishing up as many of my layouts as I can before the end of break. It unfortunately doesn't look like I'll be able to finish all of them before break ends, but it is still significantly fewer shots left to layout than I had at the start of the break, so I'll call it a success. I've gone back to laying out my 3D shots after taking a bit of a hiatus from them, and I'm actually rather pleased with how they're coming out! It is a bit of a struggle animating some transitions between different movements that are based on different references, so I'll likely have to revisit those on some following passes. However, right now I'm more focused on pushing out all of the layouts as quickly as I can in order to be able to time the film properly and be able to spend some more time down the line on building onto these animations.
I've also continued working on laying out my 2D shots and figuring out their composition. Since these will be made in a more animatic style than fully animated, they'll primarily be single-shot drawings cut together, which makes my life significantly easier. This also means I need to put a bit more work into laying them out to make sure they read clearly enough on their own- but it's been fun blocking them out and doing something a bit different from my 3D layouts.
I also have been playing around with some VFX tests in After Effects! The test was partially to figure out how I'm going to execute the fire VFX that will be in most of the film, and also partially to figure out the layout for one of my 2D shots. I'm very happy with the results though, especially since I figured out how to animate the fire without having to use frame-by-frame animation, which will definitely help my workflow drastically!
For a bit of a slow week, I managed to complete a fair amount, which I'm pretty pleased with! Next week will mark the start of classes and the new semester, and the final countdown until I complete my film in April!
